We are sad to report that Bob Evans, Skyhoundz Open Division World Champion with canine Nick (2000, 2004) passed away on January 11, 2013, after suffering a stroke. Evans was a beloved character in the disc dog world who made the most out of his cadre of talented canine athletes. At an age when most senior citizens were off enjoying quiet retirements, Evans actively competed on the disc dog circuit with his beloved canines Luke and Nick.
With a broad smile and a mischievous nature, Evans could, and often did, weave yarns that were legendary, not only for their length, but for the laughter elicited.
Always thoughtful, if Evans knew that you had a particular hobby, he’d be sure to send you an e-mail anytime he came across something he thought you might find interesting. Evans has been a fixture in the disc dog community for several decades and he will be missed not only by his canine disc cohorts from Texas, but by disc doggers around the world.
To our knowledge, Evans is the first human world canine disc champion to make the journey across the rainbow bridge, and we take comfort in knowing that all of the great disc dogs that have passed before him were eagerly awaiting his arrival, with tails wagging.
Evans’ family has asked that donations, in lieu of flowers, be made to Operation Kindness, a no-kill shelter in Carrollton, Texas. You can make a comment in the In Memory Of line – “Bob Evans – Donation Towards Plaque.” If so, they will apply the funds towards the plaque that will be established in his memory. They will also forward each donator a tax deductible receipt and a thank you letter.
Cards may be sent to Evans’ wife Peggy Evans at 107 Whispering Spring Lane, Georgetown, Texas, 78633
