For years, titling regimes have existed for canines. “Challenging” might be the operative word to describe the myriad canine training tasks in which a canine can title. However, for canines, the word “drudgery” might be a bit more on point. After all, how interesting can sitting still for a whole minute, walking in figure eights on a short leash, carrying a metal object in your mouth, or heeling, be for an athletic and intelligent canine? Has anyone ever seen a canine “smile” when performing any of the aforementioned tasks? We checked with our 8-ball prognosticator on the matter and it responded with a hearty “my sources say no.”

If you watch a canine being put through its paces during an obedience-titling attempt, it becomes quickly apparent that the dog is at work. Handlers look grim, tones are stern, and “stink eyes” are often exchanged between human and canine. Not a pleasant experience, for our four-legged sidekicks, in other words.

Why, one might ask, shouldn’t titling be fun? Well, in 2011, thanks to Skyhoundz, canine titling will get a healthy dose of happy. That’s because the largest disc dog competition series in the world, will add canine disc competition titling to their menu of canine fun and frivolity.

Here’s how it works. In addition to the normal awards that enthusiasts can win at Skyhoundz Canine Disc Competitions, teams can now earn a variety of competition titles at any and all Hyperflite Skyhoundz Canine Disc competitions including Local Championships, State Championships, DiscDogathon Qualifiers, Xtreme Distance Qualifiers, Regional Qualifiers, Open Qualifiers, International Qualifiers, the European Championship, and the World Championship. In the meantime, since Skyhoundz has maintained records going back ten years for its series of Qualifiers and World Championships, “Nostalgia Titling” is available immediately for competitors that competed at a Skyhoundz Qualifier or World Championship in years gone by.

More than 150 Skyhoundz Competition Titles are available and all dogs, regardless of age or breeding (or lack thereof!), are eligible to earn any and all Skyhoundz Competition Titles. If you qualify for a title, you can pay the nominal titling fee, and Skyhoundz will send you a Skyhoundz Canine Disc Competition Title certificate suitable for framing. Your name and the name of the titled canine will be entered into the Skyhoundz online registry in the appropriate titling class. If you want to memorialize your accomplishment for your trophy case, Skyhoundz can turn your title into a beautiful wall plaque that will look great alongside your other trophies, ribbons, and medals.

Hyperflite has been a proud sponsor of the Skyhoundz series for the past decade. For more information on Skyhoundz Canine Disc Titling, visit the new titling section on the Skyhoundz website here.
